Meeting Sunday 9-27-09

To All Supporters of The Crawford Texas Peace House

We are requesting your presence at a meeting on Sunday, Sept. 27th, at 1:00 PM.

Alan is in the process of purchasing the property from Johnny and Dave has committed to doing the necessary paperwork to set up a new non-profit entity, tentatively called Crawford Peace Museum and Gardens.

There is a real need to not allow the events that happened in Crawford to be ignored or buried. Crawford will be known as President Bush’s home and probable National Park, and we need to ensure that the beginning of the end of his popularity and illegal deeds began with the Crawford Peace House and Camp Casey.

While there are other Peace Museums in the US, I could find none in Texas. With the exception of The Japanese Garden of Peace behind the National Museum of the Pacific War in Fredericksburg there is no dedicated peace monument or museum in this conservative state. We must correct that situation.

Current plans of the Texas Education Agency schoolbook committee include minimizing U.S. Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall and Cesar Chavez in history and sociology books. That has a national effect because Texas is the largest purchaser of schoolbooks. Therefore publishers use our states guidelines. This shows a strong attempt by the extreme right to rewrite important historical human and citizens’ rights. These types of actions have contributed to the ‘dumbing down of Americans.’ We must take positive steps to counter those efforts.

We need your ideas regarding the exhibits and possible directors along with any object you may be willing to part with for historical significance. We also need real financial commitments to pay the monthly utility bills until a 501 c3 is obtained and possible grants are obtained.

Please join us as we continue the important process of ensuring the lasting legacy of the many activists who stood up for peace and justice in Crawford, Texas. Be there by noon for a veggie spagetti and sauce lunch with garlic bread and salad. The meeting will be after lunch. Please RSVP if you will attend.

If you cannot be present and want to commit to the cause please respond to this email with your ideas, possible items you may have and pledges for monthly donations for utility expenses.

Thank you all for your important work for justice and peace,

Kay, Alan and Dave
