Holy Land Foundation: American Casualties of the “War of Terror” by Beth Freed,

The Holy Land Foundation provided humanitarian services to families in Palestine and surrounding areas through Zakat (charity) committees when their assets were frozen in December 2001 by an executive order. Zakat, or charity, is one of the five pillars of faith in Islam.

Like many Americans, we have put off that conclusion, waiting for a sign that President Bush was seriously trying to dig the United States out of the disaster he created by invading Iraq without sufficient cause, in the face of global opposition, and without a plan to stabilize the country afterward.

Key GOP Senator, Richard Lugar, blasts Bush Iraq strategy

Sen. Richard Lugar (R-IN) Senate Floor Speech Calls for Course Change in Iraq

Connecting our Iraq Strategy to our Vital Interests
Monday, June 25, 2007
Mr. President, I rise today to offer observations on the continuing involvement of the United States in Iraq. In my judgment, our course in Iraq has lost contact with our vital national security interests in the Middle East and beyond. Our continuing absorption with military activities in Iraq is limiting our diplomatic assertiveness there and elsewhere in the world. The prospects that the current “surge” strategy will succeed in the way originally envisioned by the President are very limited within the short period framed by our own domestic political debate."

Action: Iraq – Next Steps to End the War -- Your Lobbying is Beginning to Work -- FCNL

We will have another chance to end the war. The Senate will soon have an opportunity to try again to change U.S. policy in Iraq. FCNL lobbyists have learned that bipartisan legislation to require the U.S. to engage in diplomatic talks to end the war and to set a date for withdrawal of U.S. forces will be introduced and could be voted on in June as part of the military authorization bill. Your senators need to hear from you and from other people in your community that you want them to support this legislation for a date certain to withdraw and diplomacy.

Take Action

Tell your senators not to vote more money for war in Iraq. Urge them to
insist on a new policy in Iraq
(http://capwiz.com/fconl/utr/1/GCPNHEWONP/AUEOHEWQMT/1215346506), and ask two of
your friends
(http://capwiz.com/fconl/utr/1/GCPNHEWONP/NCRVHEWQMU/1215346506) to do the same.
Urge your senators to support the
Iraq Study Group Recommendations Implementation Act when it comes to a
vote in the Senate.

Background: Your Lobbying is Beginning to Work

It IS up to us.

The peace and justice movement comprises many different facets of humanity thirsting for positive change. Our movement is strong and growing stronger. Let us all join in the conversation to reinvigorate and reorganize the idea of peace and justice.

We understand the stress that leadership entails. Perhaps we should be asking ourselves how we could each claim some of that leadership role so that an individual does not become over-burdened with such a heavy load.
